Planning Commission Meetings

The Planning Commission meets at 4:00 PM on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at:

Applications & Fees

The Metropolitan Council and Planning Commission have updated their fee structure based on actual operating costs, as determined by an independent study. Key changes include:

• Flat fees now replace sliding-scale fees for PUDs, UDOs, SPs, and rezoning applications.

• More transparent and predictable costs for developers and investors

Community Planning

Davidson County is divided into 14 distinct communities for planning purposes. This approach allows metro planning staff to:

• Engage more stakeholders at the local level.

• Plan with greater detail for smaller areas.

• Better serve the unique needs of each community

Department of Codes & Building Safety

The Department of Codes & Building Safety operates under a Results Matters performance management program — a results-driven system focused on delivering measurable benefits to customers. As part of the mayor’s vision for best-in-class local government, Codes is committed to providing efficient, high-quality service to every Nashville resident and developer.

Tax Assessor’s Office

The Davidson County Assessor of Property is responsible for:

• Discovering, listing, classifying, and valuing all taxable property in Davidson County

• Ensuring all property is assessed fairly and in accordance with Tennessee state laws

• Preventing under-assessment and unauthorized preferential treatment

• Providing professional service and technical assistance on all property assessment and tax policy matters

All assessments are conducted for Ad Valorem (according to value) tax purposes.

Metropolitan Beautification & Environment Commission

Working to keep Nashville clean, safe, and attractive through:

• Volunteer coordination across all 35 councilmanic districts

• Environmental programs and beautification projects

• Training and educational opportunities for residents and visitors

Commission members are appointed by the mayor to serve three-year terms, supported by the Friends of Beautification advisory group.

Mayor’s Office of Economic & Community Development (ECD)

The ECD stimulates local economic growth by focusing and coordinating government resources. Key functions include:

• Developing plans and incentives to attract and retain businesses

• Serving as liaison between businesses and city permitting & regulatory processes

• Providing business information and referrals across the Nashville area

• Administering the Nashville Foreign Trade Zone

• Issuing permits for film productions, special events, and parades

• Supporting and enhancing Nashville’s tourism industry

Historic Zoning Commission

Dedicated to preserving and protecting Davidson County’s rich history through education, technical assistance, and advocacy. The Historic Zoning Commission:

• Reviews applications to create new historic overlay districts

• Approves preservation permits in historic and conservation districts

• Oversees new construction, alterations, additions, repairs, and demolitions in protected areas

Mayor’s Office of Neighborhoods

Committed to improving the quality of life across Nashville’s neighborhoods through:

• A more informed and active citizenry

• Enhanced government responsiveness to community needs

• Stronger connections between residents and local government

Nashville Public Works

Over 300 dedicated Public Works employees work around the clock to keep Nashville safe, clean, and functional. Services include:

• Repairing potholes and public sidewalks

• Mowing grass and trimming trees near Metro roadways

• Maintaining and replacing traffic signal bulbs

• Creating and installing street signs

• Cleaning up roadside dumping and litter

• Managing trash and waste systems across Davidson County
